Bristol IV Bloody Mary Sunday

2 August 2009

Just when we might have been tempted to think we couldn’t possibly have a prettier day, we were given the gift of today.  It was a fabulous weather day from the time the sun came up!  And, the crowds showed up.  Of course, they were still cautious, as a rule, and not inclined to easily spend $200 and up on clothing . . . but they were here and they were happy.

After being afraid that this morning would come without me having any bloody mary mix on hand, both folks I asked to try to remember to pick some up, did indeed, and a third did it just to be thoughtful!  So, the resulting collection of bottles simply begged to be photographed.

Two of our bloody mary drinkers were absent today—Carol at her Fairy Festival and Paul on his way to Pennsyc.  But, we involved Gregg and Susan and Brian and Renee this morning, so still the group grew, rather than shrank!  I love that!  Traditions are meant to be shared!  Kelly and I actually enjoyed our drinks for quite a while, as it took a long while for the crowd to find their way to the faire today.

Another highlight of the day was that it was Sean and Amber’s second anniversary and he was caught often sending her beautiful flowers.  I snapped this photo of her and some colorful stems he sent her throughout the day. They are a terribly cute couple and we wish them the best!

At the end of the day, it was decided that we wouldn’t go eat as a group tonight.  Ginger was off to a special swing dance party in Chicago, and although I was hungry, I was also very tired.  Kelly, too . . . so after some socializing in the MBistro, we all said good night.  I joined Susan and Gregg for some yummy chicken cacciatore and the watching of Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog Commentary:  The Musical.  Funny stuff.

The Pig and Whistle was the scene, tonight, for a wonderful evening of jazz and bluesy sounding music by Billy Miller, Jerry Barry, Craig Broers and I’m not sure who all else.  I cannot see the stage from my booth, but I can hear it like it was in my space with me, and on these nights like this, it’s wonderful.  I did my paperwork for Nicole while listening, and as the pub was shutting down, I went to take a hot shower.   Now, I’m done with both, and struggling to be awake.

Tomorrow there will be more red ruffles for Ginger!

Margarita Monday at Chili's

24 November 2008

Really.  Call it manic.  Call it mundane.  Call it maddening.  Whatever label we give it, it can be made to look a whole lot more . . . merry . . . with a margarita.  My husband is very good at humouring me . . . this time it was at Chili’s.

Just one more weekend . . . and one more faire season Monday.  Of course, that one will be spent packing down the booth!  Oh, boy . . . I can hardly wait.

Veteran’s Day/Armistice Day

http://blog.flickr.net/2008/11/11/lest-we-forget-2/

I worked all day (except for one brief errand) and could hardly wait for Kyle to get home from work.  Tonight was camera-buying night.

We have been researching this purchase for quite some time.  Kyle—because he’s always looking for better technological gadgets, and me—because I am picky!  I knew I wanted something fairly small, but more importantly, something able to take decent close-up and zoom shots.  Low-light shooting is nice, but not at the expense of small size, or ease of use.  And, one of my biggest particulars—AA batteries!  Not these little proprietary rectangular things.  I want to be able to walk into any drug store, grocery store, gift shop, the world over, and buy batteries for my camera!

The answer, it seemed was the Canon Power Shot SX110 IS. It’s relatively new, so there isn’t too much about it floating around out there, yet.  But, what was written about it, made me feel pretty confident about it.

So, that’s what we bought.  I’ve taken only a dozen or so shots with it, so far, but it seems like it’s going to be just fine.  As soon as I figure it all out, that is!

Dinner tonight at Abuelo’s—celebrating the new acquisition.  I’m expecting that Kyle’s photo from today will be a shot of my new camera.  I’ll keep reporting on it, as I learn all it has to offer.  Sadly, I’m too tired tonight to read the manual!

Margarita at Abuelo's

29 October 2008

Finally feeling recovered from the weekend and from Monday’s travels, I spent the day in my workshop.  A brief customer appointment for measurements in the early evening ended just a short time before Kyle got home from work and whisked me off to dinner at an undisclosed location.  We ended up at Abeuelos’ and had a very tasty meal.  And a very tasty, very large margarita!

Stevens Point Brewery Thursday, Oct 30 2008

26 October 2008
One of the things I love about the Northern Micro-Breweries is their desire & ability to branch into the non-alcoholic drinks. I don’t know if the Southern breweries do it also, but I certainly haven’t experienced it at any of the ones I’ve visited. The Stevens Point Brewery in Stevens Point Wisconsin is a case in point. They do an exceptional Orange Cream gourmet soda that is better than anything that the Coca-Cola or Pepsico companies put out.

If you find yourself near Stevens Point, go visit them and pick up some Orange Cream soda. What you don’t drink for yourself, send to me. 🙂
Cheers.

Rum Runner Parrot Monday, Oct 27 2008

25 October 2008
I went to No Frills Grill this morning to have my Saturday dose of College Football and beer. Jill, Brett & later, Dave, joined me. On the way there, I’d stopped for some much-needed groceries at Kroger. Still in "Red" mode, I snapped this photo of a Bacardi Rum Runner bottle.
Parrot on Red
As I was leaving Kroger having checked myself out at the really cool & easy-to-use self-checkout lanes, the alarms went off as I exited. I had bought some expensive OTC medicine so I’m not really surprised that there is an RFID tag in them. I was surprised that it went off on me. So, I went back inside with my bag open prepared to show my receipt. What I got was a whole bunch of blank or accusing stares from employees, but not a single offer of assistance. I finally asked the nearest employee, "What would you like me to do?" His reply? "Well, you could go stand in line at Customer Service." I looked at the Customer Service line, thinking "it is the responsible thing to do" but after seeing the 8 (or so) people in the line, I quickly changed my thought to, "if they’re gonna accuse me, they can come get me." I turned on my heel and walked back through the sensors, which, of course, went off again. I ambled, intentionally slowly, to my car. I took off my shoe and dumped out a bit of rock that had wormed its way in. I turned on the engine and rolled down all the windows. Essentially, I gave them every opportunity to confront me; they did not. So, I ask, what is the purpose of those sensors at the door if the employees or management are not going to do anything when the claxons go off? What a waste of money.
Cheers.

Ice and a Pink Straw Monday, Sep 29 2008

Ice and a Pink Straw

28 September 2008

I have been surrounded by old receipts and file folders for days.  We’re coming up on a tax deadline, and I cannot believe how many hours I have in this project.  Arrggghhh!

After a long, boring day of shuffling and filing paper, Kyle took me out for Tex Mex and a margarita.  My photo is of that margarita.

“Mr. New Eyes” is pretty darned pleased with himself these last couple of days.  He has already used the words, “life-changing.”  The redness that’s left in his eyes tonight isn’t much worse than what would normally result from a long day in his contact lenses.  Today, he went down to NFG to watch part of the Cowboy game (ouch!) with Terrill,  and apparently, at one point in the game, Terrill asked “Mr. New Eyes” to tell him the score, ’cause he couldn’t read the screen himself.  Kyle could and did.  I’m so happy for him.  One more follow-up appointment on Thursday, and then he’ll be done with the antibiotics and all that really remains is for him to simply enjoy seeing!

Mojito Tuesday, Jul 29 2008

24 July 2008
I live in Texas. Texas is hot. During the summer, Texas is inhumanly hot – as I write this it is 98 degrees F outside and getting hotter – thank goodness for air conditioning. When it gets this hot beer gets to be a little much for the evening libation. Likewise, I don’t care too much for red wine at these ungodly temperatures, so I opt for drinks that originated in climates like this:
Summertime Drink
The Mojito. This version by Bacardi can’t compare to the insanely good Mojito that Trista makes down at Rob’s, but I can’t really pack the bartender up and take her home with me, can I? So, opting for the easy route, I keep a 6-pack in the very cold fridge and have one a couple hours before bedtime. It’s lovely.
Cheers.
