21 April 2008
I found out yesterday that my camera’s date was, for some reason, one day off. So, although the exif on this photo says I took it on the 20th, I actually did take it on the 21st. The dates will be wrong until the 24th, when I corrected it.

On the 21st (Monday), we had the pleasure of the Capp’s company for a quick dinner at NFG. MB is making Joe a fabulous new Tudor outfit, so they were all at the house doing preliminary design stuffs. I got home. They announced hunger. We went.
This is their newest addition:
BAC.
He loves to mug for the camera. It was making me laugh!
Cheers.

Josh gets our vote for best server at Mexican Inn Monday, Apr 28 2008

Josh gets our vote for best server at Mexican Inn

27 April 2008

Happy Birthday, Shannon!

I never got to see Shannon today—I hope she got the flowers I sent to the closing gate!

After a long weekend—there was very little sleep happening Saturday night with the loud thunder and the threat of a worse storm than what we actually got (thankfully).  Neither Kyle nor I were ready for Sunday when the day dawned.  And we were mentally prepared for the day to really suck—continued rain, no crowd, no sales.  Fortunately, that’s not what happened!  The day did stay fairly grey until very late in the afternoon.  But, it was cool enough for multiple layers, and gloves and handwarmers!  The folks who were at faire, were happy and both Pendragon and East Wind Games ended up with better than average days!

I was honored with the news that another of my performing company members wants me to clothe him again!  We had Jill and Brett visit the faire and spend some time with us.  We had a steady pace of business without the hectic, multi-tasking sometimes necessary, so it was fun.  And, despite our intentions of going straight home and getting all our wrap up work done before bedtime, we got a text message as we were driving up 287 that enticed us to stop for Mexican Inn with Brett and Jill.  After a number of visits to this restaurant, and always getting decent food, good ritas, but less than stellar service, we finally found a good server there!  My photo isn’t very good, but Josh sure was!  He took good care of us, even after closing time.  Apparently, he only works weekends, so that sucks for us, but we’ll remember to ask for him on Friday, Saturday and Sundays!

After the Rain Monday, Apr 28 2008

After the Rain

26 April 2008

Apparently, the rain that passed through Waxahachie this week, was far more severe than what we saw in Arlington.  This is the mess that greeted us this weekend upon arriving at faire. What you can’t see in this photo, is the water mark, a good three inches high!  Somehow, through what might as well be divine intervention, the interior of the booth was wet only where it leaks from above!  No flood!  Whew!

What’s really amazing about all this, is that when this booth was built, we were a good six inches higher than the land in front of us.  It used to be a slight problem for a wheelchair—a big bump.  Now, we’re down hill from road, and therefore, from everything on the other side of the road.  Stuff washes onto our front deck all the time!  And there seems to be little that can be done about it, short of paving the area between the booth and the lane.  <sigh>

Saturday was a great day—nice weather, happy patrons, good sales.  At halfway through the faire now, we’re grateful for an average day, much less a good one!  It was a little muddy, but, hey . . . it wouldn’t really be Scarborough without a little mud somewhere along the way!

We decided at the last minute to join friends Vince and Terri for dinner at Campuzano’s.   So, we missed out on our usual fun and fellowship after faire, but, we had a wonderful, and all too rare time together with these folks from Houston.  Sometimes, Texas is just too big!

Pirates, Oh my! Thursday, Apr 24 2008

20 April 2008
Sometimes it’s not easy to not turn this into an advertisement for East Wind Games. It’s an introspection, a musing, a diatribe on occasion; but I don’t ever want it to be just a commercial vehicle. So, I feel slightly bad that so often it seems that my photos are of my product, or my shop or my…whatever. But, when you are immersed in the entrepreneurial aspect of a small business, you find yourself surrounded by that business at all times. So, it sometimes is just not possible to not mention it, or use product images as the journal entry of the day. So, that’s what we have: Pirate Chessmen from East Wind Games.
Pirate Chessmen
Cheers.

Back home from D.C. (very late) and out to faire I go to spend the last few minutes of Marita Beth’s birthday with her. I made it to faire just before midnight. The next morning, thanks to Marcus & the Captain, I slept in a little while they opened shop. Finally, I tore myself out of the Sandman’s grasp and went to meet the day as it was Blazing Sun day. How could I miss my compatriot’s and friends. This is Dane Light-Strings, the minstrel of the Blazing Sun:

Kyle, his camera, and a margarita Thursday, Apr 24 2008

Kyle, his camera and a margarita

24 April 2008

After a number of non-stop days and nights, full of commitments, and appointments and even time spent with wonderful friends, Kyle and I finally had a couple of hours this evening for a “date.”  We had to go to the grocery store, and we stole an hour and a half first, to go to Mexican Inn and sit across the table from one another and have a fairly tasty meal.  We were annoyed that our server never checked on us, once we were into our meal—causing the missed opportunity for a “last call.”  But, they close early, and we were there late, so it is what it is.  While we were there, we both played with our cameras, taking photos of each other.  This is one I took of him that amuses me.  The cute one he got of me, now resides on his new blackberry-style phone!

The majority of the day was spent in retail therapy.  Actually, it was a working trip to the mid-Dallas fabric stores and Om and Sam Moon.  I found fabric I needed for Joe’s order.  I found some fabulous purple and gold for  . . . well, you know who. I even found some great hunter green cotton damask brocade—a hard-to-find colour and quality!   I found some fabulous findings and chains and the like for making period girdle chains.  And I picked up a few other things that I know will find good purposes in life, as well.  All told, I think I spent about twelve dollars that wasn’t specifically for A Wardrobe in Time.  And, I had for company, dear friend Susabella, and the two of us are a good shopping team!

And in between the two events, I met with Joe and Starr, for Joe’s first fitting.  My mock-up was not as successful as I’d have liked, but it provided the spring board for a quick re-patterning, and a subsequently perfect mock-up, while they waited.  It’s all good.

From a Moving Taxi Thursday, Apr 24 2008

18 April 2008
Happy Birthday, Marita Beth!
I’m sorry I was unable to be with you all day.

When I was 13 I went on a church trip to Washington, D.C. I have very fond memories of that trip: the excruciatingly long bus trip to and from; the pervert harassing us with "girlie magazines" such as Hustler, Penthouse & others far more explicit; the very long queue to go to the top of the Washington Monument that resulted in a non-trip because the elevator broke moments before we were to get on; the overly expensive lunch at the Smithsonian cafeteria that broke my meal budget for the week; the OMG long walk down the mall; the awe I felt at the Library of Congress & the same awe at the National Portrait Gallery; the sense of beauty & wonder at the Aerospace Museum; the impromptu race around the perimeter of the reflecting pool; trying in vain to sit on Lincoln’s lap at the Lincoln Memorial; the sheer boredom of waiting interminably at the White House hoping for a glimpse of the soon-to-be-ousted President Carter; yes, I have lots of fond memories of that trip. So, I approached this trip to Washington, D.C (the second of my life) with a sort of child-like wonderment. Of course, my memories of 26 years ago don’t hold up to the reality of the present; and since this trip was for a technical meeting with a branch of the US Government it was all going to be different anyway. This time around, I saw the inside of two bars & and an overly-expensive Italian Restaurant (tasty, though!), two taxis, a hotel, an underground mall at L’Enfant Plaza and a government building. I did see the Washington Monument from a great distance through the backseat window of an Airport/Hotel shuttle and the Jefferson Memorial - nearly close enough to hit with a thrown stone, but we were moving rapidly in a death-defying & terrifying taxi ride to the airport. Somehow, I did manage to take this photo during that ride:
Jefferson Memorial
Perhaps next time, I will have more time.
Cheers.

People & Bags & Vans Wednesday, Apr 23 2008

17 April 2008
After a crazy morning when things weren’t working properly and I was trying to get on a plane, I finally got my ticket & boarded the flight to Washington, D.C. Three some-odd hours later, I was waiting on the concourse at Reagan National Airport for the shuttle that would take me to the hotel. I sat on a post, lowered my camera to nearly street level and shot this:
Waiting for the Shuttle
Not the best shot of the day, but perhaps the most indicative of the style of day I had.
Cheers.
