Extraordinary Kyle

2 April 2008

A busy, busy day.  Donny came down from Denton to help get some more work done on the Pendragon booth.  We started the day by driving to Dallas to pick up a counter I bought on eBay.   Then, on to a little used furniture place in Grand Prairie to pick up the hutch I’d scoped out on Saturday.  Then, finally to faire, where I had the frustrating realization that the new furniture wasn’t going to work as I’d hoped.  I was ready to just deal with it not being perfect, but Donny’s voice of reason won out, so I change my plans and ultimately exercised some ingenuity to figure out how to use both items effectively and improve our comfort level in the booth almost as much as I’d originally intended.  Unfortunately, the morning’s errands and my frustration both caused our day to get away from us quickly.  Since we had to get back so Donny could have a life outside helping me (imagine that!) <wink> I’m thinking I should go back down again tomorrow to finish up some stuff I really planned to do today. <sigh>

I came home and finished up a little re-rigging job on Tommy’s codpiece, and then Kelly and I were hungry and Kyle was on his way home, so we went down the road to . . . yep.  You guess it—No Frills Grill.  And tonight, my view wasn’t blurry at all. :-)

My photo today is of a certificate that’s currently laying on our dining room table, awaiting a proper frame.  Kyle came home from work with this the other day—I think it’s cool that although the stress level is high, the company seems to appreciate its folks.  This lovely certificate is in recognition of his third anniversary with American Airlines Cargo.  It’s little things like this, that keep Kyle sane and willing to deal with the corporate BS.  And, since I’m very proud of him (and I love the fact that his annniversary date with the company is my birthday!), I saw this tonight, and decided it was good photo of the day fodder.

NFG on Two Days with No Sleep Wednesday, Apr 2 2008

NFG on Two Days with No Sleep

1 April 2008

No Fooling.  No sleep.  Again.  My fourth all-nighter in three weeks.  But, my queen will look wonderful on Saturday morning!  And, my Houston bride will have her pouch, her girdle, and her French hood.  And, the really good news is I can do this. For nearly two years, I couldn’t.  But, finally, my body has recovered from that nasty experience with menangitis and I can survive two full days without sleep.  I know that seems like something I shouldn’t even try . . . but in a world of deadlines that pop up and change, it’s a blessing to know I can if need be.

By about eight o’clock in the evening of the second day, though, I was tired.  Right before food, my world had begun to get a little blurry around the edges, and I thought it would be clever to try to capture that with the camera.  You can just barely make out Jill and Brett (my view across the table) and some of the lights and sights at No Frills.

Bedtime came immediately on the heels of returning home!

The Back of a Chair Wednesday, Apr 2 2008

1 April 2008
One of my wife’s joys in life is finding & rescuing antiques. She managed to find a couple of turn-of-the century chairs last year that we put to use at the East Wind Games booth at Scarborough Renaissance Festival. One of them got a little muddy (I’m surprised both didn’t) and had to come home for some tender-lovin’-cleanin’. This is a closeup of the carved wooden back on the chair. Not the best photo of the world, but I like the chair detail, so it’s the photo I’m using.
Vintage Chair Back
Cheers.

Sometimes the pleasure one gets from the adoration of a dog beggars belief. It’s so untainted, so unadulterated, so pure. It is one of the simplest & most pure pleasures I enjoy.

A long dirty, humid day at the Faire doing final prep work. Opening day is only 6 days away. At the end of it all was delicious Tex-Mex at the local Campuzano’s in Waxahachie, great company (Rod, Denise, Donny, Mary & Marita Beth) and a photo of my feet:
My Shoes
Yeah, that’s all I could muster.
Cheers.
