The Broom Tuesday, Apr 1 2008

29 March 2008
One of the hazards (blessings?) of being involved in the Renaissance Faire community is seeing the beauty in the hand-made item. I’ll moan about spending $38.00 on a pair of shoes that I’ll wear daily, but not think twice about spending $800 on a pair of boots that I’ll wear 18 times a year. We will eschew the ubiquitous $3.00 broom from Wal-Mart in order to support our craft industry neighbours by buying, instead a $40.00 hand-made broom.
This is one of those brooms:
Hand-Stitched Broom
Cheers.

Marita Beth & I met Terrill, his son, his wife and her parents at Edelweiss restaurant on the West side of Ft. Worth. A 41-year staple of the Ft. Worth eating scene, it’s a wonderful experience. They’ve been wanting to go for years, and Marita Beth & I rarely need an excuse. This is their charming son, who shares my name:
Kyle Smiles
Thanks, Terrill, for a great evening.
Cheers.

In between sewing projects and ordering games and doing housework, I found Artemis on the naked bed, and she was too cute to pass up photographing.  There are a whole bunch of photos in the series, the best of which are all on flickr.

Five days ’til faire opens.
