Recovery day for me. Despite not moving much on Saturday at the North Texas Irish Festival, Sunday proved to be quite a chore. I was knocked out socially, exhausted physically, and mentally drained. I vegetated all day. Come bedtime, I still had not taken a photo; but I recalled the new decoration the door. So, that’s what we get today:
.
Now, I’m not Irish - at least not that I know. There’s some proof that much of the overall Scottish lineage originally came from Ireland, but I’m more inclined to believe that since my clan(s) were lowlanders, that we probably have more English than Irish in us. But, I’ve always liked green, and three days a year at least (Noth Texas Irish Fest, Milwaukee Irish Fest & St. Patrick’s Day), I’m definitely green.
The term Erin Go Braugh has been Anglicised and Americanised so frequently, that it’s actual meaning seems nearly lost; indeed spelled in this manner, it means absolutely nothing. The word "Braugh" doesn’t exist in any form of Gaelic. You ask anyone familar with the term today, and they’ll tell you it means, "Ireland Forever". Ireland Forever, in Gaelic, however would be spelled ‘Éirinn go Brách.’ Linguists believe that it actually means, "Ireland the Beautiful" ("Erin go brea"). The most interesting part, however, is the simple fact that the term originated in Scotland by the speakers of Scottish Gàidhlig (Scots Gaelic). It migrated to Ireland (Irish Gaeilge) via song much later in the 19th century.
Cheers.
