Hanger Cluster = Busy Day

20 October 2007

At the end of a long, crazy, wonderful day at Pendragon Costumes at the Texas Renaissance Festival, I looked behind me and just had to giggle at the cluster of empty hangers that had resulted from our last mad rush.  Rather than being apalled at the mess or wondering why we weren’t tidying up any better than that—I just had to rejoice at what a good day it was in the costume biz.

Interestingly, other clothiers did well today, too.  And of course, the food and drink booths did great, ’cause the attendance rocked.  But, other vendors like jewelers and weaponsmiths—not necessarily so fortunate.  It just wasn’t their day, I guess.   It is so bizarre, and you’d think we’d give up trying to figure it out, but . . . no.

We’re hoping for another fabulous-weather day tomorrow, although I hear it might be a bit warmer.  <sigh>  These perfect days don’t come along often enough!

And maybe that’s just as well—I’m exhausted! ;-)

One Hour Delay

19 October 2007

After my late night, I was pretty proud that I was able to get my day started before noon!  I drank some coffee, did some email, wrote a business letter, wrote yesterday’s KRuMB entry, and made a couple of signs for the booth.  Then, into the workshop where I built a chemise.  I can honestly say that with the exception of making it to the bank, I actually accomplished everything I had set out for myself today.

I pulled away at straight-up seven o’clock, after dropping off the pups, making Kyle’s and Terrill’s football pool picks, and filling the gas tank on the truck.  Kyle called as I was nearing Waxahachie, and we chatted for a few minutes, as I made my way to the Whataburger.  Back on the road less than half an hour, and I encountered a wall of brake lights.

Mary had called to warn me of an overturned big rig that had traffic in the Corsicana area all snarled up.  I was hoping that since I was at least an hour, if not two, behind them on the road, that the accident would be mostly cleared and that traffic would be flowing by the time I got there.  That was not to be the case!  It ended up taking me 50 minutes to  travel the next four and a half miles.  I snapped this photo as I was passing the actual wreck site—bumpy road and the inability to give the photo my full attention as I was driving resulted in a weird, almost unearthly combination of images and lights and colours.  I think it’s actually kind of fun.  The image, that is, not the wreck.   I’m sure the driver of the 18-wheeler on its side would have far different thoughts about it.

I did eventually make it here to faire.  My thermometer on my Google sidebar tells me it’s 58 degrees in Plantersville.  No need for the a/c tonight, that’s for sure.  I’m hoping the days don’t get overly warm this weekend—we could certainly do with another nice weather weekend.  We’re trying to not think about the “r” word in the forecast.
