Airport Farewell

21 August 2007

Day Forty-nine at Bristol

The day is still fairly young, but my wonderful weekend with Kyle is over.  I delivered him to O’Hare Airport for a 2 p.m. flight, and he just called to tell me he’s safely back in Texas. <sigh>

The weekend really was pretty darned fabulous, even with the financial woes it brings.  Saying goodbye is always so hard—even when we know it’s only for three more weeks.  We had a totally traffic-free trip south, so we had time for lunch at Shoeless Joe’s before our actual farewell.  This photo was taken there, in the booth where we ate.  I used my fun little three-legged alien tripod and had the camera at arm’s length.  I framed the photo with just Kyle in it, and then put myself in the right spot to make the photo work.  Not the best background, since I couldn’t shoot from a higher angle, but a cute spontaneous photo of us, nonetheless.

The rest of my day will bring a few errands and some sewing.  It’s a strange day here—ours is not the only goodbye.  Other friends had partings of their own—some easy, some—not so much.  Interesting energy.

I, for one, am lonely.

Good Friends

20 August 2007

Day Forty-eight at Bristol

Good food, good friends . . . what more could we want?  Kyle and I were extremely lazy this morning, allowing ourselves to sleep in and take our time getting the day started.  When we finally left the faire site, it was to go have lunch.  So, we orchestrated meeting Kelly and Joseph and Shannon at a sweet little Tex-Mex-type place I like a lot, called El Sarape.  This photo of the three of them, was taken after our lunch and margaritas, before we all went separate directions for the afternoon.  I love it!  I think it’s a super picture of all three of these dear, dear friends.

It was a totally relaxed day–the lunch, then a run through Marshalls to find a shirt for Kyle and one for me, as well, since I’d managed to drop red sauce on the white shirt I was wearing.  Then, Kyle and I went to Panera Bread for tea and WiFi so he could check in for his flight tomorrow.  After that we wandered into a little restaurant I’d wondered about for years called Gerhard’s.  A charming place with a yummy-sounding German sort of menu and a beautiful little bar area.  We had a pint and then drove the short distance to Chad’s housewarming party where I expected we’d stay an hour or so and then move on.

Five hours later . . . we’d enjoyed the company of many of our best friends, and we’d experienced a rather incredible group reading by Stephen Bishop, my new friend, and a talented medium.  Although we just met this summer, it turns out that Stephen lives in Texas, literally ten minutes from our house!  His background is in theatre and costuming, and he and I seem to have a history that predates this lifetime.  I am pleased to have him in my life, now, and look forward to getting to know him better!

We came home tonight, Kyle and I, realizing this is our last night together for a while.  This time tomorrow night I’ll be snuggling with just the cat.
