Hand at Work Friday, Aug 10 2007

9 August 2007
Yesterday. And, I’m caught up again.
Yesterday was an inordinately busy day. Not sure why, it just seemed very busy and, as a result, went by pretty quickly. This photo is of me pencilling yet another meeting into an already busy calendar. I try to remember to write them all down as opposed to just using the electronic version. But, I’m a woefully disorganized person at times, and I prefer to just let my electronic, work-supplied leash remind me when I’m supposed to be where. I write them down for my wife. Not so that she can look at my calendar, but because she is organising me. And by that, I mean, she wants me to be more organised, and is trying to help. So, here’s a photo of me pencilling yet another meeting into an already busy calendar. I already said that, didn’t I?

Cheers.

As if I couldn’t get enough of airports, off I had to go. Back to DFW on the 8th to get my hands measured. Yeah. New bio-metric measurements required for all badge-carrying employees. Luckily it was pretty quick & easy (unlike my last trip to that office). On the way out, back to my car, I happened to look up as I was crossing the street. The juxtaposition caught my eye and out came the camera.
Grand Hyatt
This is part of Terminal D at DFW. It truly is an excellent terminal with so much on offer, including the beautiful Grand Hyatt Hotel.
Cheers.

Royal Flush Friday, Aug 10 2007

7 August 2007
My friend Terrill has just started a new endeavour. He, and some colleagues/friends are running a small company putting together and hosting poker tournaments. Yeah, it's that big. They've just got their domain and are in the process of building a quick-to-market website (they already have clients and need to get this done quickly). Terrill came to me, knowing my affiliation with games, and asked if I had a deck of cards on me. "But, of course," I replied and handed them to him. He pulled out five cards, fanned them out and asked me to take a picture. Heh. It was a Royal Flush in spades. A hand I've never seen actually happen in a game, but the most recognizable hand in all of poker. They needed a logo and this was going to be part of it. When they have the site, completed, I'll post the URL here. But, in the meantime, all you get is the base image: The Royal Flush
Cheers

Beautiful Goblets

9 August 2007

Day Thirty-seven at Bristol

Whew!  It was a full and rewarding day.  I spent the first part of the day at the glass studio.  I helped Shannon make a carafe and a set of matching tumblers, and a few other tumblers, and then, when she was done for the day, she turned the studio over to Ginger and me!  If we hadn’t both had so much of our own work we really needed to be working on, we probably could have stayed and blown glass for hours.  As it was, we each made one piece—both tumblers.  But, here’s the real thing:  I physically handled this little tumbler all the way through the process, with no hands-on assistance at all.  Ginger coached me and I’m sure I couldn’t have done it without her.  But, the gaffer left the studio floor.  It was just we two girls, and we did great!  I am very proud, and can hardly wait to go over in the morning and see what I made!  This is a pretty big milestone in my glassblowing education.  Yay me!

I got a good deal of work done in the workhop, and finally quit in there around 9:30 p.m.  Then, I came home and hung a new shelf in my shoppe, giving me space to keep all my girl glass handy during weekends.  Then, I did a whole bunch of dishes, and now, I’m doing my post, and I’m exhausted.

This photo today, is of many of my pretty goblets from Girl Glass, on their new shelf.
