Artemis

16 July 2007

Day Thirteen at Bristol

I cannot believe that after doing this for over six months, I have never titled a post, “Artemis.”  Well, not anymore.

It was a Monday—faxing and copies and errands, oh my!  I spent so much time out of the booth today, that when I finally came in and settled down, Artemis was instantly in my lap!  Now, she’s in the bed—patiently waiting for me to give up on the day and join her.  It won’t be long.  I am tired, but as I just began contemplating walking to the wash house to brush my teeth and such, it began to sprinkle rain.  And what was my delay in doing this fifth of a mile walk?  I was watering the plants, of course!

Anyway, Artemis looks as charming as ever on this lovely handmade quilt—-a gift to Kyle from his “Nonie” a number of years ago.   She made me one, too—which usually is what I bring with me, here, but for some reason this year, this is the one that made the trip.

Hoses Monday, Jul 16 2007

14 July 2007
Saturday. There was supposed be footy practice, but with only 3 confirmed attendees, I didn’t bother with the drive.  I should show more commitment, but it’s difficult to do when the temperature is already above 90 degrees F by 9 a.m. So, I opted for air-conditioned entertainment and went to see Ratatouille instead. Brilliant!
As Ratatouille ended and I turned on my phone, I received a phone call from the folks at the airport, so I had to run home and make some quick changes to a script I’d written for their sort. But, dammit, I wasn’t done with my air-conditioned entertainment, so I headed back out to No Frill’s Grill. That’s where I took this photo:
Hoses
The guys and gals that work this particular piece of modern machinery were at No Frill’s having some much needed nourishment. While there, Terrill paged me and wanted to know if I wished to join he and his son for the new Harry Potter movie. I did, and enjoyed the “wickedest movie ever” (according to young Kyle). Then back to No Frill’s for dinner and more beer. The fire truck was gone, but that was okay—I had my picture.
Cheers.

Friday the 13th Monday, Jul 16 2007

13 July 2007
I left the house this morning intending to photograph every 13 I came across. And so I did. Friday the 13th only comes along a few times a year, so why not treat it to a themed day, yeah? I took quite a few photos and you know what. Every damn one of them was a wretched piece. From my neighbour’s car that bears a 13 in the license plate to the neighbour down the street who’s house number contains a 13. I took a lot of photos of things with that theme in mind. Why then, does the only photo worthy of inclusion (well, truly it was simply the best; it’s not really worthy of inclusion either) have to be from work?
Friday the 13th
The gods are laughing.
Cheers.

Perpetual Calendar Monday, Jul 16 2007

12 July 2007
The only calendar I live by is this one:
Perpetual Calendar
This perpetual calendar hangs on the wall in our hall and each morning when I leave the room for the first time, I immediately update it. The simple activity keeps me attuned to the here and now.
The thing I love about it is that it will be a forever calendar; at least until some Pope (or other “important” figure decides to futz with it (like they did in 1582).
Oh and that intrusive little bit of wood in the upper right corner? That’s a boomerang made for me by a dear friend. It’s hand constructed of some rare and beautiful woods. Since boomerangs are designed to fly, this one has flown: once. It’s just to beautiful to risk breakage. I’d be absolutely gutted were something to happen to it.
I had neglected to take my camera with me when I left the house, so this was truly the only photo of the day. It happens.
