Spring Storm

13 March 2007

This photo is a departure from the rest of my “spring” series, but it depicts spring in North Texas, all the same.  Midday today, we had an amazingly fierce thunderstorm, complete with lightening, hail, and some flooding.  The whole thing only lasted maybe half an hour.  But, at its peak, it was formidable.

The sky was dark and gloomy and almost green, but not quite.  I liked the way the dead and mostly dead trees in our front yard were silhouetted against the stormy sky.

The other photo I almost used today would have been much more colourful, and probably more amusing.  As I was getting dressed this morning, I heard a strange and unfamiliar sound, and came to realise it was the sound of my closet rod falling from its newly broken bracket.  Ugh.  The photo is of ALL of my formerly hanging clothes piled high on the poor little antique bed, making the heap taller than I am.  The good news is that since Rick is here this week helping me in the workshop, and being generally useful, he was able to run to the hardware store, procure what was needed, and help me get everything back in functional order.  Thank you, Rick!  Once again, I was forced to realise that the universe is unfolding as it should—to quote the poem, Desiderata—and the timing of this little crisis was pretty convenient, all things considered.
