Spring Green

9 March 2007

The colour of these leaves seems to be right out of the Crayola box of 64 colours I remember from my childhood–spring green!  I grabbed my camera and decided to see if I could capture the beautiful late morning light — just the right amout of humidity or something, and the world was extraordinarily three-dimensional and crisp this morning.  As it turned out, until I have time to get out into the front gardens and clear away leaves and do some springtime maintenance, I’m not happy enough with the way it all looks to really take the sort of photograph I had in my head.

So, I turned my attention to something I could shoot close-up.  This little plant has been getting my attention for a little over a week now.  That’s how recently I remember looking at it and thinking, “Oooh, the first little green shoots of spring!”  And now, it’s many times that size.  And in another month’s time it will likely bloom cheerful little yellow daisy-like flowers.  I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the plant.

I’m happy with the photo.  I love the fresh green leaves against the spent, brown leaves of last season, and I like the contrast of the living plant against the hard stones.
