Quaint amidst Corporate

22 February 2007

Ronnie and I had a luncheon business meeting today about various printing and embroidery projects we’ve been planning.  When he arrived, he asked if I’d be willing to drive with him to Coppell to pick up an order he had placed and needed by tomorrow.   Of course, I said “yes”—and it worked out great, ’cause we were able to discuss the work-stuff with little to no distractions.

Driving through the very industrial, corporate area just north of the airport, we looked up at an intersection and saw this!

I was charmed and took the photo.  I did some research just now and learned that Minyard’s is the 26th largest employer in the Fort Worth/Dallas area.  I didn’t know that.  But, I couldn’t find any information about whether or not this cute little store is in fact the original Minyard’s Grocery Store.  I’m betting it is, and they moved it here when they established their headquarters here in 1981.  But, yes or no, it’s a cute little “personal” touch in a world of corporate austerity.

My Neighbour’s Tree Thursday, Feb 22 2007

17 February, 2007
My Neighbour's Tree
The tree in my neighbour’s yard. It’s a young tree, only 15 or so, but in the spring and early summer it’s truly a beautiful bit of life.
I liked the colour that the setting sun threw into the bark so I took the photo. Probably not the best photo I took that day, but it’s what I chose as most indicative of my day. I didn’t leave the neighbourhood except for footy practice in the early morning…and I didn’t take my camera to the session. So, I took a home-body style photo late in the day.
Cheers.

D Terminal…Again Thursday, Feb 22 2007

D Terminal
The beautiful D Terminal at DFW. The good thing is, I’m coming instead of going this time around. The D Terminal is full of shopping, art, eateries, bars and waiting areas. It’s expansive, clean and a marvel of modern architecture. All that’s a very good thing considering just how much time I spend there these days.
Cheers.

Key West Sunset Ale Thursday, Feb 22 2007

15 February, 2007
Key West Sunset Ale
Last night at the hotel and I finally find a beer I enjoy. The Crowne Plaza Hotel has a decent bar with a decent, if very opinionated barkeep; however they’ve been out of Red Stripe & Fosters since I got here; nor do they carry any stouts or brown ales. Well, that is, until they brought in Key West Sunset Ale. Nothing particularly special about the brew other than the fact that it wasn’t yet-another-bottle-of-water-trying-to-pass-as-beer. Little to no aroma, and I drank it out of the bottle rather than poured into a glass so I can’t judge the head. A wonderfully light flavour that would suit me just perfect on a hot day in Miami (like it was). A far better choice than Miller or Budweiser and certainly palatable.
Hooray Beer.
Cheers.

A Solution is at Hand Thursday, Feb 22 2007

A Solution is At Hand
How’s this for a romantic photo, eh? Yeah, well that’s the sort of romance I had on this Valentine’s day. I had an affair with a white board, dry-erase markers and hand-held scanners. The day was spent in Miami trying to work out a solution for an existing problematic paradigm that needs to be corrected and shifted soon. Happy Valentine’s Day.
